Battling Star Wars Drones
Emperor, you spoil us... Following on from the massively successful launch of the BB-8 Sphero Droid last year, RC specialists Propel are set to unleash a set of 4 amazing battling Star Wars quad drones. Fans young and old will finally be able to take control of iconic Star Wars vehicles in dogfights against other pilots at speeds of up to 25mph / 40km/h.
You'll be able to choose from a 74-Z Speeder Bike, Tie Advanced X1, T-65 X-Wing Starfighter and of course, the Millennium Falcon. The models feature an advanced ‘reverse’ propulsion system situated beneath the hulls, that allow them to accelerate to 25mph in just 3 seconds.
It also means that the craft are pushed into the air, rather than sucked, meaning the models can be made without holes in them – unlike some previous attempts - to further resemble the iconic craft. More exciting still, they are equipped with model specific coloured lasers so pilots with an eye for bullseyeing Womp rats can shoot each other out of the sky.
The blue sky thinking has been extended to the propellors too, which have been designed to look invisible to maintain the illusion of actually flying the 'real' thing. There will be stabilisation aids to help beginners but once you get the hang of the controls, you’ll be able to perform flips and loops to evade any pursuers.
The packaging is pretty stunning too; each hand-painted model comes in a luxe box with a moulded relief of the spacecraft inside and it contains a display plinth (with light and sound effects), so your chosen craft will look equally stunning parked on a shelf.
Each will come individually numbered and the packaging wax sealed to please the die-hard collectors.
The one downside is that if you live in the US, getting hold of these might prove a little tricky. So far Propel only have the license for Europe and the Middle East; so if you're desperate to get your hands on one (or several), you'll have to find a retailer prepared to ship to America. Like us for instance. We'll update on availability as soon as possible.
These most definitely are the Star Wars toys you are looking for... Until then, check out our #StarWars merch here.
