Frying tonight! The XM42 Handheld Flamethrower
Smaug me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!... The XM42 is the world’s first fully handheld, grab and go portable flamethrower to go on general sale. Of course it's totally ridiculous but if you're after something for weed control, clearing snow, killing insects or just for having fun and have around $900 / £600 to burn, then US company Ion Productions will happily take your money.
Running on 87 octane gasoline, this licit lilliputian immolator will shoot a plume of ignited fuel 20 to 25 feet in 5 second bursts. And for any low watt bulb considering investing, Chris Byers (CEO of Ion) "strongly encourages use only in a safe outdoor area, free from inadvertent flammable objects and away from others."
Surprisingly flamethrowers are legal in most States; the only two exceptions appear to be California, which requires users to obtain a permit and Maryland, in which they're most definitely verboten. So if you want to theatrically light a bonfire or are looking for a novel way to cook bacon, then head to ion's website and set fire to a pile of cash.
